Kentucky Derby Party

Theme of Wellesley ABC'S Spring Benefit

WELLESLEY, Mass (February 1, 2010) – Ladies, dust off your hats! It’s a run for the roses on Saturday, May 1, at Wellesley A Better Chance’s Kentucky Derby party.

Wellesley ABC's annual spring benefit will be held at the Babson Executive Center for Education, located at Babson College, Wellesley. Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for and plan to attend. The ABC party has been a sell-out in recent years, with more than 225 attending each time.

“The Kentucky Derby has a great party tradition,” said Wellesley ABC co-president Mariann Youniss. “Come join ABC as we re-create the energy, excitement, and sparkle of this special Triple Crown event.”

Wellesley resident Dorene Higgons, past chair of the American Cancer Society and Julie Fund events, chairs the ABC event this year, with the help of an enthusiastic committee. Wellesley resident Chris Georgenes’ band, One Moe Time, will play for the third year, providing live music.

An open bar, a live band, and dancing are part of the festivities. Attire is Derby casual. Hats are encouraged but not required.

"The ABC party is always a relaxed, fun atmosphere -- and more importantly, it's a great opportunity for friends and benefactors of Wellesley ABC to raise money for the organization,” said Youniss. "Our Spring Benefit is a key fundraiser. We look forward to continued support from the Wellesley community and beyond.”

Ticket sales and auction proceeds support the operating costs of the ABC scholars program, including academic support, student activities, house maintenance, food and supplies, and insurance.

Save The Date notices for the event will be mailed this month to Wellesley ABC supporters. Tickets are $125 each. For further information or to purchase tickets, please go to ABC’s website, www.wellesleyabc.org.

Sponsorship opportunities are available as well. Companies and individuals looking to help underwrite the cost of the event can contact Val Buller at springfundraiser@wellesleyabc.org.
